About Ayarr Starr
Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe (born June 14, 2002), better known as Professor Ayra Starr, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and model. Born in Cotonou, Ayra Starr began working in fashion at the age of 16 with Quove model control before deciding to pursue music. After covering many songs by famous artists on Instagram, he posted his first original song on his page in February 2019. This caught the attention of record producer Don Jazzy and led him to sign with Mavin Records.
In early 2021, Ayra Starr won international recognition with Unonymous Debut Extended Play and her hit song “Away,” which peaked at number four on Nigeria’s TurnTable Top 50 and number 17 on Billboard’s Global Top Triller. Growing up in a music-loving family, his love for music came primarily from his family. At age 10, he sang into a high school musician and began writing songs with his brother. He attended Les Cours Sonou University and earned a BA in International Relations and Political Science.
Ayra Starr Musical Career
In August 2018, Starr signed with Quove Models, a Lagos-based modeling company. From there, she worked as a model for companies such as Mazelle Studio, Perfect Fashion Magazine, and Sister Esperanza. In 2019, he started posting covers of songs by artists such as Andra Day and 2Face Idibia online. He chose his stage name because, in his words, “it means to wake up and open your eyes and that’s what I represent.” It appears in the music video for Eri Love’s song “Dear Future Wife.” In May 2019, he posted an original song called “Damage” on his Instagram page. During that week, he announced plans to release his new album. On July 19, he released a new album for social media, titled 19 & Dangerous and his release date will be August 6. “Samaritan” was announced as the first of 19 & Danger. The song starts on BBC Radio 1Xtra on July 28, 2021.
On August 6, 2021, he finally released his debut album, 19 & Danger, which included around 11 songs in total and featured artists such as Ckay and Fousheé.
